Welcome

Welcome to Dr. Nicola Marae Allain’s faculty website.
I am a tenured professor in the Arts and Media Department at SUNY Empire State University.

I am a core founding faculty member in the digital media arts degree program, teaching Digital Storytelling and The History and Theory of New Media in the Spring 2026 Term.

Take a look at the “About” page to learn more about my academic background and the types of topics I cover.  In addition to “traditional” performing arts, media and philosophy training, I have extensive expertise in digital media and technology, having developed a wide range of systems, environments and artifacts. For example, the avatars in the header above are a sampling of the 100 or so 3D characters I created for the virtual world Second Life, using Adobe Photoshop and a number of 3D software applications. My recent scholarly work focuses on AI – for the past couple of years, I have been co-leading SUNY FACT2 AI initiatives, and co-authoring the SUNY FACT2 AI Guides. For more about my work as an author, poet and artist, see my personal website at nicolamarae.com.
